Most branded carmakers and telephone manufacturers have used three systems for telephone connectivity and vehicle infotainment in the last 5 years. They are Mirrorlink, Android Auto and Car Play. All systems have the task of transferring approved and safe applications from the phone display to the car display and their safe control while the vehicle is driving. It will never allow unapproved or unsupported applications to be displayed on the car's display in the original version. However, this does not suit a large number of users who would prefer to use their favorite navigation or allow passengers to watch other than just approved applications. There have been many attempts to fully mirror the phone to the car display.MirrorLink is historically the oldest, but also the least widespread system. After leaving support from Samsung and Toyota, it has become a thing of the past and only works with great difficulty on older Sony and HTC phones. Also, the certification of the phone, car and application was very complex and difficult for users to break.Car Play from Apple for Iphone phones is a closed system that does not allow you to make any changes to the system settings. Despite these measures, we managed to find a gap in how to mirror the contents of the Iphone on the display of the car radio, but this is not the subject of this presentation and our own instructions will be created. Because Android is an open platform, because it has more and more users, and because it can be used in a huge number of cars today and in virtually all phones with Android 6 and higher, we decided to focus in this direction.We are therefore looking for a solution that allows you to connect your main phone through the Android Auto application and allow full mirroring of all the contents of your phone on the display of your car. Ideally via WiFi (even if your car is not equipped with WiFi) and with the possibility of controlling functions by voice or touching the display of your car. The condition is that no hardware or software changes will be made to the car. Another condition is that you do not need root or applications from sources other than the official Google Play on your phone.All used applications are free to download, without license or time fees.You can find a list of compatible cars here :You can find a list of compatible car radios here :So I assume you have a compatible car with Android Auto equipment and a phone with Android 6 and higher. Our solution has been tested for Android 6 to Android 11. You don't even have to have the Android Auto application installed on this phone. We will not need it for our purposes. If you have it there, you don't have to uninstall it, it doesn't matter.So what is the miracle box described in my videos as the "black box interface" ?Let's see what they need to know. It must work on the Android platform . Because it must communicate through Android Auto, it must have Android 5.1 or higher. It must be equipped with a USB connector for connection to any vehicle. It must include Android Auto to connect to the unit in the car. It must be equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity to be able to communicate with your main phone. And it must have access to Android system files so that it can smuggle unsupported and unapproved applications into Android Auto. It must be equipped with a GPS unit (if the navigation contained in Android Auto is to work) and it must have a microphonefor voice control. No wonder then that if such units exist, see for example these , they are either not yet tightened into the sales line or cost too much money ($ 100 and up) in the form of Plug and Play. If you opt for some of them, you don't have to read any further. You order, pay, wait for the mail to arrive and you can work. If you want a cheaper solution that you can customize exactly for your needs, read on.So let's look at a solution that is not so simple, but is completely universal, easily customizable and costs less than half the price of a commercial solution. Look again at the necessary conditions that the "black box interface" must meet . Do you know any such devices? But of course you know!Such conditions will be met by any phone that you buy in a second hand (or lies at home in a drawer) for about $ 50! All you have to do is root on this second, cheap second-hand phone and use it as a link between your main phone and the car! If you use any middle and lower class phone with Android 7,8,9, it will be rich in parameters for our purposes and you can buy it really cheaply, randomly Samsung A3, J5, etc. In addition, it has another huge advantage over similar commercial solutions. On the one hand, it will allow some applications that you want to mirror in the car to upload directly to this phone (there must be at least Android Auto, crack Android Cars and a communication program for WiFi connection to your phone), on the other hand, it will allow you to run applications that would transfer you from your main phone did not work (for example, Netflix , Amazon Private video, etc. ). In the next part of the text, I will refer to this root connection phone as the root communication phone - RCPhon .So what do you need to do to connect your main phone via WiFi via Android Auto to the vehicle infotainment to fully mirror your phone ?First of all, it is necessary to create a common WiFi network through which the phones will communicate with each other. If your car is not equipped with WiFi connectivity, just create a WiFi HotSpo t on your phone and connect the RCPhon phone to this network. If you will not be using RCPhon for anything other than in-car connectivity, delete all other previously set and saved WiFi networks in it and have it automatically connect to the HotSpot if the network is within range.If you only want to play movies or YouTube within the full mirroring of your phone, you do not need to install anything on your main phone except the YouTube application and VLC player , everything else will be arranged by RCPhon .Mirroring all applications and possible control of your phone will need to install the main phone application AirDroid . This will allow you to completely stream the image from your phone via WiFi to the RCPhon , which will then send it to the car display via a USB cable . But it can do much more, and that is to accept touch instructions from this remote car display to control your main phone !You can find AirDroid on the Play Store here :After installing the application, you will create a user account that you will remember well. We will need it further!If you want the phone to be able to receive instructions and control from your car display even without a root , you must also upload the airdroid to your PC and set up communication for remote control. If you don't have it on your phone yet, you can find it on the Play Store here .This eliminates the need to install new applications on your main phone . For a start, I recommend just starting with AirDroid without setting up on a PC, it's enough to stream your applications from your phone to the radio display.Now let's see what needs to be done with your second RCPhone .First you need to completely do the root of this RCPhone device. Then upload the latest version of Android Auto either from the Play Store, if it is not available in your country, you can use the download source from our site. Then we set up Android Auto and load the Car2Auto application . All information, links, downloads can be found in the manual here .You connect your phone to a car and test its functionality for mirroring through Android Auto. Now comes the second part of setting up how to connect your other phone without the root of the device.Which applications will we need to receive a WiFi stream from your main phone? All we need is the only AirMirror application : Remote support & Remote control devices, you can find it here on the Play Store .You will upload it to your RCPhone . You log in to the application with the same name and password that you used for the Air Droid application installed on your main phone. You add the AirMirror application to the main page of running applications in Screen2Auto .Then you take both phones and make other settings in the car. Both your main phone and your RCPhone must be on a common WiFi network. If you do not have one in the car, just create a WiFi Hotspot on your main phone and connect the RCPhone to this created WiFi network.You connect the RCPhone with a USB cable to the car radio and start Android Auto. Switch to Screen2Auto and start the AirMirror application. You launch the AirDroid application on the main phone. Both phones will be visible in the common WiFi network and will allow you to add them to paired devices. Select your main phone in the AirMirror application and click on it. The application offers you 3 options. Control, Camera and Screen Mirroring . Select screen mirroring . A request to confirm screen sharing appears on the main phone. We give our consent and a copy - stream of the screen of our main phone - appears on the car display. AirMirror has its own control panel, which can rotate with the orientation of the display and enlarge it to full screen. So set the correct orientation and size of the image .If you click on Control , a message will appear stating that your phone (main) is not root and you need to add more files to it. To do this, there is a detailed guide directly in the application on how to do this by connecting the phone to a PC. So you connect your main phone to a PC on which you run the AirDroid application for Windows. (or Linux or Mac, if you have one). The link to download the file to your PC is above. In developer mode and USB debug enabled, you connect your main phone to a PC. Follow the instructions to start debugging your phone, which will upload the appropriate files to your main phone. The operation is terminated with a message that everything was successful. (It is important to note that this setting will usually need to be made again after a restart of your phone!)After a successful debug of your main phone, we can repeat the whole procedure with the connection in the car. Now, after selecting the Control function in AirMirror , the transfer of touches from the screen of your car radio display to your main telephone will work .However, one limitation of AirDroid and AirMirror should be noted. These applications can only transmit images (or touches), but do not transmit audio . So you can listen to the sound from the speaker of your main phone or use the BlueTooth connection of your phone with the car. However, there is a problem with some car manufacturers that a phone with Android Auto (ie our root RCPhon) is connected via BT and this setting cannot be changed.For such cases, it was necessary to change the application for transmitting the image with sound from your main phone , as well as the application for receiving the image stream with sound installed on the RCPhone .Your main phone use Google Home (link to the download is available at the beginning of this manual is here . RCPhone to install AIRSCREEN (which then can be used to stream the iPhone). Link to download from the Play Store is there .On the RCPhone, start AirScreen , check Cast in the settings and set the Player in DNLA .We will connect the RCPhone to the WiFi network in the car again and let Google Home search for the new device on the main phone. Find your RCPhone running AIRSCREEN as a device for playing content. Confirm this device and both applications will connect and the RC Phone will start receiving audio and video information from your main phone , which it will send to the car radio display and to the speakers in the car. In this case, however, the touches from your car sound system will not be transferred to the display of your main telephone.
